Art can provide a refuge from politics and conflict. During a time when we are torn by the different visions we have for our society, we are especially thankful for glimpses of beauty in our world. Working outdoors, in nature, or on a city street, an artist is intensely aware of how sunshine washes over a landscape or city scene, and focuses all her attention on the brushstrokes and colors she can use to capture the moment she is experiencing. This exhibit, “Sharing My Views,” is Ann Schaefer’s opportunity to share this delightful experience with everyone.
A Fine Arts graduate of George Washington University, Schaefer developed her art skills at the Corcoran School of Art, and through many workshops and classes with distinguished artists over the years.  While pursuing a career in Federal environmental programs, she worked on her art on weekends and during travel, enjoying plein air painting, and gaining a keen sense of observation. The mountains, marshes, and rivers of Maryland are constant sources of inspiration, particularly the Potomac and Nanticoke rivers where she spends much of her time. Her art supplies are always in her suitcase when she travels, too. She participates in outdoor painting events, where her work has often won awards.
The public is invited to an Opening Reception on April 1, from 5 to 9 pm. Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 5 pm. The artist will hold open studio/demonstrations on April 5 (12 to 6) and April 28 (12 to 8).
